Rawfayre

A family garden since 1966. the property (‘kineton’), built in 1934 by the Foyles book company, on land that was once dairy-farm fields.

It started sadly when we arrived, with the felling of many very large trees that one would see along the edge of many property here, and nearly all are gone now. But our garden took shape thanks to our mum, from a farming background, who set about chopping logs that she asked to be left, as firewood, for some years. This bridged us over to central heating when I was just an infant.

From about 1975, inspired by the Pebble Mill at One show, with Mr Smith (who had his own vegetable garden series and then went on to Gardeners’ World) we had a few years of an abundance of veg to add to the yearly apple which meant a stack of crates for many years each autumn.

Looked after since 2020 by me, a vegan (of 30+ years) gardener, and permaculturist. I took the Design Course in Permaluture with Steve Charter at Cana Dulce nr Coin, Spain in 2003 (with a taster shortly before at EcoForest with Devin Ashwood).
